We offer fusion-relevant training through dedicated fusion pathways in several MSc Programmes across Physics and Mathematics:

Students on the fusion MSc pathways will either focus on fusion-specific physics in the School of Physics and Astronomy or on computational and data-driven applications in the School of Mathematics. Naturally, there will be an overlap between these and students will take courses across both schools covering fusion-specific topics such as kinetic theory of collisional and collisionless plasmas, gyrokinetics and several fluid-like approximations such as magnetohydrodynamics with an emphasis on theoretical and practical applications in fusion. Moreover, students are trained in data analysis and machine learning, skills that are increasingly in demand across the sector. MSc projects can be provided through collaboration and co-supervision with UKAEA staff. There are also possibilities to accommodate MSc projects in collaboration with the private sector. Especially the MSc-projects with UKAEA will provide students with direct insight into current research in fusion.
Funding and how to apply
To ensure that as many students as possible can be admitted into the fusion pathways, we support students with specific CPT MSc scholarships. Students committing to undertake at least 1000h (100 credits) fusion-specific training will become eligible to apply for the scholarship after matriculation. Scholarships consist of a full fee waiver and a stipend to help with living expenses. They will be awarded on the basis of merit and promise, with a focus on increasing diversity and Widening Participation (WP), specifically concerning underrepresented genders.
